From One Child’s Idea to a Community Harvest
Waimauku Kindergarten
16 Mar 2026

Waimauku Kindergarten is nestled in the heart of our semi‑rural Waimauku community, surrounded by natural beauty and space to explore. Opened in July 2003 through the dedication and passion of local whānau, our kindergarten was built on a vision of creating a welcoming place for all. Today, it continues to be a vibrant, inclusive environment where children and their families feel a strong sense of belonging.

At Waimauku Kindergarten, we aspire for every child to grow through play, curiosity, and meaningful experiences. Our large natural outdoor environment and purpose‑built indoor spaces encourage children to explore, create, and discover alongside others. We value hands‑on learning, children help plant, harvest, and taste food from our gardens, and we embrace sustainability in how we resource and run our kindergarten. With a committed teaching team guiding and supporting them, tamariki have the freedom and agency to follow their interests and develop their own working theories.

Our philosophy is grounded in a play‑based curriculum that nurtures the whole child. We create a safe, engaging, and thoughtfully resourced environment where tamariki are empowered to learn at their own pace and in their own ways. Children are encouraged to make choices, solve problems, collaborate, and explore ideas through real‑world experiences. Our programme reflects inclusive practice, respect for diversity, and a commitment to sustainability, ensuring every child is supported to thrive as a confident, capable learner.
